More about Yves

As reported by Refinery 29, rival film companies are battling it out over who has the right to shoot the biography of French designer Yves Saint Laurent and who is allowed to portray the clothes that set the fashion agenda for a generation.

First to release a poster is Bertrand Bonello’s Saint Laurent.
starring Gaspard Ulliel (whom some may recognize from the Longchamp ads he recently appeared in opposite Kate Moss) and Léa Seydoux as Yves’ longtime muse and collaborator, Loulou de la Falaise.

“The film will focus on Yves Saint Laurent’s most emblematic years, from 1965 to 1976, the year of his Russian collection, considered by many as his most influential. This was an incredibly important period for him both creatively and personally,” says Eric Altmayer, co-head of Mandarin Cinéma alongside his brother Nicolas.

However, Jalil Lespert’s Yves Saint Laurent, starring Pierre Niney, has received the endorsement of Pierre Bergé, Saint Laurent’s lifetime business partner and one time lover. Yves Saint Laurent is going forward with the blessing of PPR (the company that owns YSL), which means it will have access to the brand’s archives and permission to reproduce actual designs.
