31 Feet Tall Chihuly Sculpture Unveiled In Union Square Park

Chiluly

A new Dale Chihuly sculpture has been erected in New York’s Union Square Park. The artist, famous for his colorful glass sculptures and elaborate chandeliers—many of which currently adorn upscale casinos, glitzy hotel lobbies, and yachts—was on hand for the unveiling, along with NYC Parks Manhattan Borough commissioner William Castro, and others.
The 31-feet tall sculpture, called Rose Crystal Tower, is part of the NYC Parks’ program Art in the Parks, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The Rose Crystal Tower is composed of Polyvitro crystals and steel. According to the announcement from the Parks Department, Polyvitro is “the artist’s term for a plastic material which he casts into individual chunks which resemble glass, but are lighter and more resilient.”
